Next Steps

Welcome to Bronco Nation!  There is still work to be done before you arrive on campus, and this page is a good resource for you.  It includes a checklist as well as a general overview of the most important items you need to accomplish before your first day of classes.

To do list and key dates

Find your list by first choosing your first semester of attendance.

  • Now

    • Set up your My.BoiseState and BroncoMail accounts. You’ll
      need your username and student ID number (from your letter of admission), birthday, and social security number.
      The first time you access your accounts, click on “Create/Reset Your Password.” Once you set your password, you
      will be able to log into My.BoiseState and BroncoMail. Check these accounts often – they are your official link
      to Boise State news!
    • Visit campus (if you haven’t already). Schedule
      your visit
      .
    • Starting October 1, students are able to apply for the Free Application for Federal
      Student Aid
      (FAFSA). Students who want to be considered for need based scholarships should complete the
      FAFSA by February 15.
    • Review Scholarships How to Apply
      page. Beginning November 1, login to the Boise State
      Scholarship Application
      using your Boise State username and password and complete the general
      scholarship application and any recommended apply to opportunities.
    • Check your email regularly for updates and opportunities
    • Accept your offer of admission .

    December

    January/February

    March

    • By March 15: Be sure to complete your FAFSA to maximize priority financial aid such as grants, work study and loans.
    • Mid-March: Sign-up begins for BroncoVenture Orientation! All new students are expected to attend a BroncoVenture Orientation before registering for the first semester of courses. Register for a summer BroncoVenture Orientation program that works with your schedule.

    Spring

    • Make sure you have signed up for BroncoVenture Orientation. All new students are expected to attend an orientation event before registering for their first semester of courses. (Please note that you will need your my.boisestate account information.)
    • Complete the online writing course placement process, The Write Class, prior to your orientation date.
    • If your admission status is conditional, have final official transcripts sent to: Boise State Admissions, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID 83725. Please be aware we will need final documents before you can register for your second semester at Boise State

    Summer

  • Now

    October – January

    • Mid-October: Sign-up begins for BroncoVenture Orientation! All new students are expected to attend a BroncoVenture Orientation before registering for the first semester of courses.
    • Complete the online writing course placement process, The Write Class, prior to your orientation date.
    • Attend your Orientation program where you will meet faculty, staff, and other new students and get a head start on preparing for the Spring.
    • If your admission status is conditional, have final official transcripts sent to: Boise State Admissions, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID 83725. Please be aware we will need final documents before you can register for your second semester at Boise State.
    • Pay fees on January 5. To view your billing details and due dates log on to My.BoiseState, Navigate to Student Center,
      Account Inquiry (located under the finance section), Charges Due.
    • Sign up for BroncoAlert
    • Move into the Residence Halls (January 9)
    • First day of classes! (January 9)

    • Apply for Federal Financial Aid 
    • Complete the scholarship application process
    • Contact the department of your major for academic advising.  If you are undecided about what to study and would like to develop a plan that will prepare you for a future program, make an appointment with Advising and Academic Enhancement.
    • Use My.BoiseState to view the summer schedule, financial aid awards, to-do items, and fee payment deadlines on the Summer session you plan to attend.  To view your billing details and due dates log on to My.BoiseState, Navigate to Student Center, Account Inquiry (located under the finance section), Charges Due.
    • Check out the Summer session calendar for important dates and deadlines.
    • Summer class registration begins Monday, March 13.
    • Sign up for BroncoVenture Orientation Newly admitted Summer degree-seeking students are expected to attend an Orientation program before registering for Fall classes. For more information, check out New Student and Family Programs.
    • Sign up for BroncoAlert
    • In late March Apply for Summer-only on-campus housing.

    • Register for classes once your registration appointment arrives via your My.BoiseState account.  To view our billing details and due dates log on to My.BoiseState, Navigate to Student Center, Account Inquiry (located under the finance section), Charges Due.

    • Verify the set-up of your My.BoiseState and BroncoMail accounts here. If it has been awhile since you logged in, you will need to reset your password. Click on “Create/Reset Your Password.” You’ll need your username and student ID number (on your letter of admission if you need a refresher), birthday, and social security number.
      Once you set your password, you will be able to log into My.BoiseState and BroncoMail. Check these accounts often – they are your official link to Boise State news!
    • Apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    • Set up an appointment with your academic advisor. Unsure of who your advisor is? You can see your advisor by logging into My.BoiseState, going to the Student Center, and viewing the Advisor section.
    • Register for classes once your registration appointment arrives via your My.BoiseState account. You can see the first date and time you can register for a term by logging into My.BoiseState, going to the Student Center, and viewing the Enrollment Dates section.
    • Review the academic calendar to make sure you are aware of key semester dates and deadlines.
    • • Pay your tuition and fees by the due date for the semester. To view your billing details and due dates, log on to My.BoiseState, Navigate to Student Center, Account Inquiry (located under the finance section), Charges Due.
    • Sign up for BroncoAlert

    • Meet with your department chair and determine which courses are required to complete your second degree. Bring a copy of your transcript(s) from each school where you have earned college credit. To find contact information based on your major go to academics.boisestate.edu.
    • Identify with your department chair the transfer courses that are needed as prerequisites in your second degree and complete the Second Baccalaureate Degree Transfer Credit Request Form.
    • Submit an approved list or check sheet of the courses required for your second degree to the Evaluators in the Registrar’s Office, Administration Building, Room 110. Your department may choose to forward the form for you, but it is your responsibility to ensure that the Registrar’s Office receives a copy. If you have completed the Second Baccalaureate Degree Transfer Credit Request Form, submit it to the Registrar’s Office. Completion of this form will initiate the process of allowing some of your transfer courses to be used as requisites and recognize by my.BoiseState when you register for courses. It is especially beneficial to follow this process if
      you will need the same prerequisites in subsequent semesters. Please allow up to two weeks for processing the transfer credit request form.
    • Apply for graduation during the semester before you intend to graduate, but no later than end of the first week of the semester you intend to graduate (see the Academic Calendar at registrar.boisestate.edu/academic-calendar.shtml
      for the exact date). You may apply for graduation online through your my.BoiseState student account. A nonrefundable graduation application fee must be paid when applying.

Defer your admission to a new academic year?

A student is only allowed to move their semester of admission forward once per application . If a student changes their semester of admission by completing a semester-switch or deferment form and then wants to move it forward again, they will need to re-apply for admission and pay another $50.00 application fee.

Important: Declining your admission will also cancel your Boise State Housing application. If you have applied for on-campus housing be sure to visit the Boise State Housing website to understand any dates, fees and refunds that may be pertinent to you.
