Evaluating Credits Earned towards Degree:
Once admitted, your transcript is automatically reviewed to identify equivalent Boise State courses.
Boise State accepts college-level academic credits from regionally accredited institutions.
Credits earned at nonaccredited institutions may be transferred by requesting a review for approval by the department offering similar courses. If you can provide course assignments and requirements, this will help the review process.
If the course has no equivalent at Boise State, the credit may count as general elective credit. See your Boise State advisor to determine if elective classes might meet additional core/degree requirements. A course evaluation sheet will be sent to you when completed.
When calculating overall cumulative GPA, Boise State will use the most recent grade earned for a course that was repeated.
When transferring credits from a quarter/term system, credit hours are converted to semester credits, but you do not lose credits. Equivalent courses need not be retaken because of credit hour differences. Click here to review the quarter to semester credit conversion rate.
Credit will be awarded for College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate Program, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Submit official score reports to Boise State along with other transcripts. See our credit for prior learning brochure (adobe acrobat document).
Boise State requires a minimum of 128 credits for a baccalaureate degree, of which 40 credits must be upper-division courses. All course credits from a junior or community college may transfer, but only 70 credits will be used toward degree completion.
Your final 30 of 36 credits for a baccalaureate degree must be completed at Boise State University.

Associate's Degree
If you have an academic associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, you will be considered "core certified" by Boise State University. This means that you have fulfilled the lower-division general education or "core" classes at Boise State and can transfer in with junior standing. Students are still responsible for meeting all graduation requirements, including specific "core" courses required by the college or department of your major.
If you haven't completed an associate's degree, you will be granted credit based on a course-by-course review of your transcript. If you are transferring from an Idaho school, you may still be considered "core certified" when your transcript is stamped "core certified" by the Registrar's Office of your original institution.
Registering For Classes
Once admitted to Boise State University, you will receive an Admission Letter, which will indicate your admission status and registration information.
You must attend an orientation program to register for classes. During the program you can take any placement tests necessary and meet with an advisor.
If your transcripts were submitted close to the admission application deadline, bring a copy of your transcript from all previous colleges attended to help you and your advisor determine the appropriate Boise State classes you need to take in the upcoming semester.
