Educational Background

Undergraduate

If you are seeking an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree, you will need to submit official transcripts or marksheets that show you have completed the equivalent of a high school diploma or graduation in the United States. This would be approximately the level of education you would need to complete to be allowed entrance into a university in your home country. If you have completed courses at a recognized or accredited university in your home country, you must submit official transcripts or marksheets showing the grades that you received, along with a syllabus or course description of the classes you have completed.

If you are a transfer student, your official transcript will be evaluated for transfer credit. If the school you attended is not in the United States, this evaluation will not be completed until after the semester has begun. It takes 4-6 weeks to receive this evaluation. If the school you attended is within the United States, the evaluation process will take 2-3 weeks to complete. A list of the courses that have been accepted by Boise State University will be mailed to you.

Graduate

The equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized or accredited university is required for admission to any graduate program. Official transcripts or marksheets from the university you attended are required, along with official proof (diploma or graduation certificate) that you received a degree.

Nondegree Students

Nondegree means that you are not pursuing a degree program. You may attend Boise State University as a nondegree student as long as you have completed the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma and hold a visa other than F-1. Any academic courses completed as a nondegree student that fulfill requirements towards a degree can be used if you enroll later as a degree-seeking student. As a nondegree student you are limited to 7 or fewer credits each semester. To apply, submit an application, 30 USD (undergraduate) or 55 USD (graduate) application fee, a photocopy of your I-94 and the visa in your passport, and proof that you have completed the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma (official transcripts, marksheets, or diploma are required).

Official Documents

To be considered official, the transcripts or marksheets must be sent directly to Boise State University from the institution you attended. If you have completed your education in a country that does not issue transcripts, a photocopy of your original marksheets or grade reports should be verified or attested by the school you attended that it is a true copy of the original document. If the original documents are not in English, a verified or attested translation must accompany your official transcripts in your native language. These documents must be sent directly to Boise State University from the institution you attended. Learn more about transcript translation.

Financial Information

You are required to provide proof that you, your family, or a sponsor will have the financial resources to support you while you are a student at Boise State University. If you are currently in the United States with a visa other than a student visa and plan to become a student on a student visa, you must also provide this proof of financial support.

The financial documentation form lists the estimate of annual expenses for international students at either the graduate or undergraduate level. You must list on this form the funds you have that are sufficient to cover the estimated expenses. If the funds are in your name, indicate this and sign the bottom of the form. If the funds are in the name of a parent or sponsor, he or she must read and sign the sponsor certification section located on the financial documentation form. If you are currently in the United States with a visa classification other than a student visa, financial documentation is not required.

Dependents

If you plan to bring a spouse and/or children, they will need to be listed on the financial documentation form. Please list their names at the bottom of the form along with their date of birth, country of citizenship, and relationship to the student. You must add 3,000 USD per dependent to the total available funds.

Scholarship Information

Boise State University offers many scholarships for outstanding freshmen and transfer students as they pursue academic excellence. We offer nonresident tuition assistance scholarships, as well as graduate assistantships for international students. To be eligible for these scholarships, international students must have the equivalent of a minimum cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.0 and submit all application materials to the International Admissions Office by February 15th for admission for the following fall semester.
